What do you know about team truck driving? What does this concept refer to? Is it related to driving times and breaks? In this post, we want to talk to you about team driving, the legislation for team driving, the use of the digital tachograph in this type of driving, and much more.

If you want to discover all the aspects of this concept, don’t miss our post. Throughout it, we explain it to you in detail!

What is meant by team driving?

The truck team can be understood as the situation in which, during any period between; two consecutive daily rest periods, or between a daily rest period and a weekly rest period, there are at least two drivers in the vehicle participating. During the first hour of the team, the presence of another driver or driver is optional, but during the remaining period, it is mandatory.

Drive and rest times in team driving

In relation to driving and rest times when driving as a team,  you should know that it is not necessary to make the 45-minute break every 4 and a half hours, since the time spent as co-driver counts as a break; therefore at 4:30 hours we must stop, change the driver and the cards in the tachograph and continue the trip.

During team driving, in a period of 30 hours, both drivers must enjoy a break (with the vehicle stopped if it is done in the vehicle) of 9 consecutive hours.

Therefore, since we start at 9 pm, we must stop to take the rest so that we have 9 hours of rest within the 30 hours that is established by law.

Using the tach grade

Regarding the use of the digital tachograph, it should be noted that it is of vital importance to avoid penalties, among other things. Its correct use is mandatory.

You must bear in mind that whenever a second driver (co-driver) is in the vehicle, the two driver cards must be inserted in the tachograph, even if the conditions for team driving are not met.

In slot 1 the driver card will be inserted and the tachograph will record driving time; in slot 2 the card of the co-driver (co-driver) will be inserted and the tachograph will record availability time.

To find out more information, it is important that you review the regulations and penalties for the digital tachograph.

Legislation on team driving

The legislation on the team is very clear and indicates the type of sanction and its severity:

From this, we conclude that it is a serious penalty not to use the correct slot correctly.

This sanction carries a fine that can range between 401 dollars and 600 dollars and not only that, it can also lead to a loss of good repute on the part of the managers and the transport manager of the company.

On the other hand, also if there are two drivers (people who can drive even if they are not going to do it on that trip) the two cards are not inserted, one in each slot as we have mentioned, it will be a reason for sanction. In this case, it will be very serious, between 2,001 dollars to 4,000 dollars.

We hope that this post has helped you to better understand the concept of team and above all to know the regulations that govern it, how to use the tachograph in these cases, and what are the most serious penalties which you can face in the event that you do not follow the legislation of team.
